Moments and Sites of Grounding
cedar, top soil, winter cover crop
Completed: 2020
Installed in the coldest months of the year, Moments and Sites of Grounding, offers a reprieve from the harsh Minnesota winter just outside the walls. Comprised of Cedar and soil, the gallery is filled with an earthy aroma, reminiscent of the spring. The soil forms which are created using only moisture and pressure, are seeded with a winter cover crop. Over the course of the exhibition, this cover crop will sprout and grow bright green against the backdrop of falling snow.

The cedar structure is intended to be used as an abstracted garden path and seating area. Viewers are invited to walk, stand, sit, or lie down upon it in the company of soil and sprouts.
